UPGRADING AGAIN VIC? I wouldn't do a thing based on that scan(the scanner isn't perfect you know). However if you would post the make, model, etc of the computer you are trying to upgrade I'm fairly sure we can figure something out for you. It would also be helpful if you pulled a stick of old memory out of the computer and posted the memory specs too.

Thanks again for fixing me up on the X20. My desktop computer is a Gateway 3200S, as shown in the above link. Did you suggest that adding memory won't help the machine much? If so, I'll throw my money in a different direction. If not, will taking it up towards 3 Meg help it some? I'll await a reply as getting to it is a bit of a hassle.

Vic

HI THE REASON I said not to do any thing based on that scan is it was obviously wrong. Your computers Max memory surly is not 3145728 mb. Anyhow I did look up your gateway model and type and assuming it has two memory slots, (check that before you order), your computer can take a Max of 2 gig of memory, 2 x 1 gig each. Since you already have one stick of 256 mb I would buy one more stick of 1 gig and put that in the first memory slot and move your present 256 stick to the second slot. This is the best compromise between performance and cost since your gateway is old and ddr is now pretty much obsolete, however spending $50 to upgrade is a reasonable sum in my opinion. But putting two gig in a computer that old wouldn't make any sense to me. You will notice a tremendous difference between 256 mb and 1.256 gig but not so much between 1.256 gig and 2 gig.

1GB

Part #: CT431925 • DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64 • • more details

1GB

Part #: CT431928 • DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 128Meg x 64 • • more details

GOTCHA! I"ll get in to the computer, verify what it's got, make sure of what it can handle physically and go from there. Thank you very much!

Vic
