1st Gen MacPro 4 Core 2006-2007 - RAM upgrades not recognised - Scan ID 04482BCC31D926C3

Just bought 2 x4GB  240-PIN512Mx72 DDR2 PC2-5300 memory from Crucial after using their system scanner. Installed in my MacPro which already has 4GB of RAM (2x 2GB pair) and restarted. However, Mac is still only showing the 4GB RAM not the newly installed pair. Rechecked, changed slots and boards (there are two in my machine) and it still only recognises the original 4GB.

Any ideas? Is it worth taking out the 2x2GB RAM and just leaving in the new 2x4GB RAM and see if the Mac starts ? What happens if it doesn't recognise any RAM ? Will this 'break' my Mac completely?

Is it the wrong RAM? My existing RAM shows up on the Mac System profile as : 4GB 667MHZ FFR2 F8 DIMM (this is also from Crucial)

Thanks - have emailed Crucial but it's a Saturday so don't expect a reply until next week sometime - which is fine, but thought someone from the forum may have experienced this before.

UPDATE: Took out old RAM and put in just the new 8GB and the Mac recognised it and it works. So old 4GB RAM must have been faulty. Going to buy more 8GB to replace!
