Crucial Ballistix Sport not supported?

[ Edited ]

Hello,

why is 8GB, Ballistix 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800 memory module

http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=BLS8G3N169ES4

showing as not compatible with Macbook Pro mid 2012?

All the specs seem to fit with that Macbook

Thanks!

Hi AeroZ,

First of all I'm sorry about the late reply.

I have had a look in to this memory and the 2012 MacBook Pro system for you.  When recommending memory for a MacBook Pro system we always recommend our Apple branded Crucial memory.  This memory is designed and configured to work with Mac systems.

The Ballistix memory you have linked to is the same speed as the Mac memory however it has a CL=9 but the Mac specific memory is CL=11.  Due to the difference in timing between the memory types we would not recommend the Ballistix memory for the MacBook Pro.

Okay so I was doing so research on ram and bought this from you guys but started reading formums and got scared , So far no problems. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro early 2011. From what I understand my MacBook is cl9 9-9-9-24 so is this ram going to be okay for me? I got the 8gb also 2 4gb at 1600 MHz which I know the 2011s were max at 1333 but apple out out a release later on that they can actually handle 16

Hi Pauletronic,

Ballistix Sport is not the best type of memory for Mac systems because of the differences in speed and timings. If it is installed and not having any issues, you should be fine, however.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Well isn't the MacBook Pro early 2011 timing 9-9-9-24 just like this? Maybe just my model happens to match exactly?

Hi Pauletronic,

Thanks for your reply.

Mac systems are very particular about what memory modules they can support.  We actually recommend our Mac specific memory modules against Mac systems due to this.

All memory we recommend is fully tested against the system before recommendation.  Ballistix memory would unfortunately not work in your Mac system.

If you confirm the screen size and processor speed of your MacBook Pro 2011 I would be more than happy to recommend the correct memory for you.
