I purchased a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard about a week ago and used it without a problem for about a week. At the same time, I bought a Crucial 4GB memory upgrade. Last night, I installed the new memory from Crucial. I was able to boot successfully and verify that the memory was registered properly. This morning, I started doing some web browsing with Safari and Firefox and began seeing several kernel panics requiring restarts. After doing some reading online, it appeared that others had similar problems and recommended taking the new memory back out and seeing if that fixed the problem. I did that and everything seems to be back to normal.
Ideas about how to proceed? I'd like to make this work, but obviously I can't have the kernel panics.
Information about the computer:
Mac 10.6.1
Processor: 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo
Current memory: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Information from the sticker about the memory I am trying to install:
CT51264BC1067.8SDA
4GB 204-PIN SODIMM 512Mx64 DDR
Any other information needed? Let me know the best next steps!
Thanks,
Ryan

I am having the same issues. It has been rather annoying. I would like to know if I should RMA the memory. Beyond that, I am really disappointed with Crucial not responding to Ryan. Its been more than 3 days!!!
Its my first order with Crucial in a long time. Now I remember why.

Hi Ryan/ Micah,
I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your upgrade and would like to offer some troubleshooting steps to see if we can get this resolved for you.
The first thing to do is try each of the modules on it's own in each slot to try and narrow down if one module or slot is possibly causing the problem. Please also compare the original and new modules for any differences in spec, as the system is dual channel it needs identical pairs so even a slight difference may cause this instability.
You should ensure you have the latest Firmware and Operating System updates from Apple.
You can try disconnecting any Firewire devices as they are known to cause problems with larger amounts of memory.
If you are unsure if the memory is faulty, you can run the Apple hardware test CD that shipped with your Apple system. Please follow Apple's instructions for using this CD. The program will test all the hardware in your system and report if it finds any faults.
If the memory does appear faulty, we can exchange it under warranty for you.
Please also note that the purpose of the community is for users to help each other. Crucial Moderators basically keep an eye on the boards and will only jump in with assistance where required or after a certain amount of time has passed so please be assured that the posts are not being ignored. If you would like a quick and direct response from Crucial you can call us or use the Live Chat facility. For future reference you can find our contact details below:
Please let us know how you get on with the above.

Just to help out...
I have had Crucial 4g mem (on two seperate Mac-books) for about a year plus now with absolutely no problems....and when I upgraded to SL...I have had the same problems.
There is definitely something going on....
When I remove the memory and go back to the original apple mem...things are fine
I like trouble shooting so throw some questions my way too on this...I have been reading elsewhere about this same problem and replacement memory is not helping.
weird...

I am having the same difficulty on my 24" iMac, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory worked just fine until I installed Snow Leopard. Changing the memory back to my old memory corrected the issue, but of course now the machine runs much more slowly.
What do I do next?
Thanks
