Do the reboots stop if you remove the memory? If they do, please try booting your system with only the Crucial parts installed. Please also give us the full CT part numbers from the modules, as well as the outcome of your troubleshooting, and we can proceed from there.

Re: MacPro G5 Intel Finder reboots periodically while working since installed 2 4GIG cards

The problem does not occur when I go back to my original Mac memory (2 512 cards).

The Crucial memory I have is 2 4GIG cards

The CT number is as follows (same on both):

CT51272AP667.M36FGOD6

Thanks for this.  Did you try the Crucial modules on their own as previously advised?  What happens then?

The problem may be down to the installation of the modules.  When installing memory in the Mac Pro system you will need to ensure the modules are in the correct slots so that the full amount is detected and the system is stable.  You should always install the largest modules first.

The first pair of modules go in slot 1 and 2 of the top riser card, the next pair go in slot 1 and 2 of the bottom riser card. The third pair go in slot 3 and 4 of the top riser card and the last pair in slot 3 and 4 of the bottom riser.

Please try this and let us know how you get on.

Thanks

Re: MacPro G5 Intel Finder reboots periodically while working since installed 2 4GIG cards

I have tried the Crucial modules on their own and the problem still occurs. I currently have the (2) 4gig modules installed in the first 2 slots on the top card. The original (2) 512 modules are not installed.

I notice that the error occurs when working on within the adobe CS2 suite. This is the same software I ran while using my original memory without issue.

Any thoughts?

So do you only have the problem running that particular piece of software and the system is otherwise stable?

If so, it could be a conflict within it due to the increase in RAM size.  Please check that you have the latest updates for the software.

You can also run a test on the memory to check if it is possibly faulty.  You can either use the Apple Hardware test CD that shipped with your system or alternatively we recommend Rember.

Rember can be downloaded from here: http://www.kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember/

Once the application has opened, please select 'All memory' and 'Quit applications' before starting the test.

If either the Apple hardware test or Rember report errors, please contact us for further advice.
