Ram Problems stopped my whole computer working

Hello,

Recently my computer started playing up. I started getting the Bootmgr missing error on boot up, and also I was unable to access the bios (the comp would freeze). I tried the normal way of fixing these errors, and subsequently lost all my data =(. There were no beeps at startup to indicate any hardware errors, however, I started testing components, starting with the RAM. Upon pulling one stick out the computer proceded to boot up fine, with no errors at all.

When I placed it back in again the errors returned.

What is happening here? The Ram is roughly 10 months old, so I'm assuming this isnt the life of the product?

Thanks

Re: Ram Problems stopped my whole computer working

You could have a couple of issues. One, your memory has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Two, your memory slot has gone bad and you won't be able to use it. Have you tried placing the memory in either of the remaining memory slots? Have you tried using MemTest on your memory? Bad memory is the best issue of the two, RAM can be replaced. The second means that you will either lose the slot or need to replace the motherboard. <---- Not the easiest option. Find out if it is your memory or if it is your board. We can go from there.

Its deffinatley the ram stick. I tried it in the first slot and it still wont boot up. The problem is that my housemate built the machine so I dont have the reciepts or anything. Can I still send the stick back and get a replacement?
