Two absolutely identical systems (hardware and software), operating perfectly for nine months, 600 miles apart, both suffered identical failures within 7 days of the second of two 2GB 800mHz 4-4-4-12 Ballistix chips. (Spontaneous restarts, corrupted hard drives, failed failed Prime95 and ulimately Memtest86+.)
Upon reseating the chips, the error seems to go away, but not conclusively. (I switched to other chips just in case.)
This seems entirely too coincidental. I'm wondering whether anyone has info or likely suspects.
Intel Q45CB mainboard
Core 2 Duo E8400
XP SP3
Intel Q45/Q43 display adapter (6.14.10.5082)
Intel 82567LM-3 NIC (10.4.19.0)
I'm suspicious of a Windows Update to the display adapter.

There was an update about a month ago that kept me hopping for about 2 weeks. It did overwrite a display adapter driver. Reinstalling the video driver setup from each respective system fixed this. I believe this update was a security measure to support a fix MS is implementing on a flaw in XP video rendering software. And even though the flaw was in XP, all versions got the hardware update. I'm guessing this is a preventative measure. I've lost count on the number of systems I had to check and update, upwards of a hundred I think. Update your video and audio drivers. If you have other external software applications needed, ie. camera software, robot controller software, or anything else that uses your video or audio applications, go ahead and reinstall their drivers as well. Better to be safe than sorry. ![]()
BTW, MS has no response as to what they've fixed exactly nor how it will affect systems as a whole. It must be nice to be that big of a company!!
