need to know if the 1066 is required with asus m4A79 delux with AMD Phenom II X4 940 AM2+

hello on the mobo I am getting is a ASUS M4A79 Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard Number of Memory Slots= 4×240pin, Memory Standard= DDR2 1066*/800

*Due to AMD CPU limitation, DDR2 1066 is supported by AM2+ / AM3 CPU for one DIMM per channel only

 with a AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor. what I need to know is, can I run (2) 4GB kit (2GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module which is DDR2-800, or do I have to run (2) 4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-8500 memory module which is DDR2-1066? how much difference is there between the 2 different sets?

You can run either the PC208500 or the PC2-6400 kit, either one will work. However, if you install the one with the higher speed you will need to lower the memory speed down to PC2-6400 again if you want to add modules to the remaining two slots in the future.

How much difference you see between the two kits depends very much on the rest of your system, as well as what you plan to use it for. Generally however, the vast majority of users don't see a big difference between PC2-6400 and PC2-8500. Not that I personally would let that stop me from buying the faster ones if I could run them... :smileywink:
