Ballistix MOD (Memory Overview Display) utility FAQ, feedback and questions

Crucial is launching a new DDR3 Ballistix design on June 1st at our partner Newegg’s site.  The product will be available at other sites and Crucial.com in the coming months.

The new Ballistix finned module has a temp sensor built in and we’ve also provided a utility to monitor memory temperatures real-time. (www.crucial.com/ballistixmod).

This thread is to discuss the utility with comments and questions. We value our users feedback and input and look forward to making improvements based on your helpful suggestions.

FAQ:

Q: What information does the temperature-monitoring utility show?

A: It shows the information programmed into the SPD, including device type, capacity, part number, and programmed profiles—JEDEC, XMP. It also shows real-time temperature monitoring (Celsius or Fahrenheit) with graphical representation via a temperature gradient bar and rolling graph so you can track temp over time. You can also log the data to a CSV file.

Q: With which platforms is the utility compatible?

A: It was originally designed for the P55 and X58 chipsets (Core I5 and Core I7), but is compatible with most of the enthusiast chipsets.  The program was designed for Windows 7 and will also run on Windows XP with downloads for  32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Q: Will the utility work with other memory modules?

A: The utility was designed specifically for the new Crucial Ballistix modules with thermal sensor (the “finned” design). However, it is possible that it will show limited data for other memory modules.  The part number is BL25664FN1608

Q: Is this the final version of the utility?

A: The utility is a beta and we’re hoping to receive useful feedback from the community. We have plans to add more features in the future.

Looks very nice guys, good work!!

No luck with temps on Blue Tracers though, even though they do have a temp sensor in them

Re: Ballistix MOD (Memory Overview Display) utility FAQ, feedback and questions

Hello,

The modules are currently available on Newegg.com only.  They will be available on other sites including Crucial.com in the near future.  The MOD will only work with the new Ballistix modules.

Ahh ok, thanks!

I didn't know they were already in stock at newegg, just looked on the Crucial site and didn't see them so I wasn't sure if they were out yet.

*edit*

I found them at newegg, only dual channel, is triple channel coming soon?

Re: Ballistix MOD (Memory Overview Display) utility FAQ, feedback and questions

I really like this utility idea. But it does mean I'm going to have buy all new memory. Grrrrrr!! Hopefully, this stuff gets qualified with the X58 chipset. One thought here though, you should make sure to look into getting an applet built for the utility so that Logitech G19/G15 users, like me, can use the utility, off-screen, to monitor temps. I use my EVGA Precision tool the same way. It really helps monitor issues while your causing them.

I'm issues getting this to run properly under Win7 (either x86 or x64). I have tried also running in compatibility mode and as admin (even though I am admin on the box). I'm getting the following .NET errors at startup and on the Temps and SPD data buttons:

This program does not work at all! Smiley Mad

I have Windows Update run constantly and it was revised (all updates successful and latest) just before installing this heap of rotten dung.

Either x86 or x64 have installs itself witout problems. Both of them after being launched show the sam behaviour: some strange error box pops up and after Continue button was clicked, this appeared:

818i212351B1E1E82EE7

Empty interface.

Every click SPD Data or Temperature menues results popping up the same annoying error window!
