[ Edited ]

Hi,

My 525G MX300 seems really slow, have checked the allignment is correct. Any idea what would be the cost? running Win10, Dell E5470, i5, 16gb ram

It's down to the laptop chipsets power saving features.  You need to disable them to get max sata performance.  Note that doing so will disable the CPU's turbo boost feature.

I can't actually remember the process.  It's been so long since anyone has asked! But if you still want to go ahead (despite the increased power consumption and loss of turbo boost) let me know and I'll hunt down the guide tonight after work.  Because of the side effects, you probably only want this for the purposes of becnhmarking and not long term use.

Re: Bad performance on Win10

Found them!  I know these are really old, but they apply to at elast some newer intel laptop chipsets than those mentioned

Hi Targetbsp,

Thanks for the info. Do you recon this is cause by the laptop power saving? As the Seq read speed looks fine but thethe others look more like a HDD. I have done another test with power plan set to High. Capture.JPG

And also, Could you help, for what reason the Health is rating at 99% rather than 100%??

That's not the case.  A HD would be scoring 0.something on the 4k's.  4K performance is what SSD's are for!

Just to be clear... you're not expecting all speeds to be 500mb/sec are you?  If so, it might be that what you're expecting to happen is wrong. Not the drive. Smiley Happy

The only thing that looks espeically low to me there is the seq write. Do you have write caching on?

You've used 1% of the drive up.  SSD life span is based on average NAND erases across the drive as a percentage of the drives rated life.  It's fairly normal for you to use a chunk when it's new as you clone or install everything, play with it, benchmark it etc.  The wear should drastically slow down though when you simply start using it properly and you'll then probably be using just a few percent a year.

Re: Bad performance on Win10

No I'm not expecting all to be 500 mb/s, but yes the seq write is my concere (Compare with the other's mx300's result). I have checked that the caching is ticked. Any idea what will might be the other cause? Is that possible a hardware fault? Thx.

Re: Bad performance on Win10

No, a hardware fault won't cause that.  It'll be a config issue or chipset limitation.

If there was a hardware fault, the I/O's would be at a stand still, not doign 100's of MB/sec.
