Re: C300 256GB : Shortened lifespan ?!

Looking at the big picture and taking short timeline of the drop into account I would probably say something very unusual is going on there indeed.

If something even more weird happens, I will post it here. Thank you for your time and input.

Definately Smiley Happy You have linked many quite valuable information. Yesterday I was going to search for that data but unfortunately didn't have that much time.

I can think of one more question here: When did you update your firmware to 0007?

I can imagine you may have a cause for concern now and if the lifespan would continue to drop rapidly I would probably try to reflash the firmware and do secure erase after that in order to see if that could improve the things.

After a second power outage (a few minutes away from the first), my C300 was no longer recognized. I came on this forum to find a solution to my problem and this FAQ has helped me find the solution (by completing a power cycle).

It was at this time that I decided to update the firmware of my C300 - from 0006 to 0007 - BUT I'm not sure of the exact date.

I think it was around march 2013.

This drop of lifespan may seems related to this event (updating firmware), as you are suggesting, but at the same time my % of space used increased up to 80 % (maybe a bit more - lack of data) like this :

I don't know what to think but yes, if the lifespan continue to drop rapidly, I will try to reflash the firmware and do secure erase. Thank you for this advice !

By the way, if anyone need my spreadsheet ( updated 18/06/2013 ) - you can get it : >> here <<.

You can add my data to the sheet, it is from April but it's worth to note it is for non-TRIM environment (Windows XP):

- 128 GB M4, 50 % used space

- 09 - 995

- F5 - 463501465

- F6 - 2756774501

Hi Lpwl, did you find out anything new for your case? I was wondering did you try secure erase or some other things perhaps...

Re: C300 256GB : Shortened lifespan ?!

Hey !

It's been about two months I frequently take a look on my C300 :

WAF is getting smaller gradually but still > 20. Still no impact on performance.

I'll try to perform a secure erase within 1 month. Thanks for checking anyway !

Re: C300 256GB : Shortened lifespan ?!

the c300 is a monster drive. i beat my four drives to a pulp testing, and they perform top speed after it all. these are really enterprise drives presented as consumer devices. one of the best even now. super tough. they won't let you down Smiley Wink

It seems it got back to normal Lpwl. Take a look at NAND writes and Host writes (in TB) and ratio between them - 0,4 TB of Host Writes, 0,5 TB of NAND Writes all in two months. Looks quite normal now I guess.

Hey !

Yeap it's looking normal and I'm happy about it !

By the way, I did try to secure erase (red line below)  my C300 and it seems to be good.
