Re:OPTIONAL.

Yea well I have firmware that can case the drive to stop working after 500 hrs.

And if I go through Crucial support for DLs for this drive I am ONLY offered this latest firmware.

Optional or not, its not a good situation to be in , esp from a 'premier' maunfacturer.

New firmware 020H for Micron C400 released!

- Provides the updated version using the FreeDOS Virtual Floppy method.
- Reduces the time necessary for the system to power on (boot).
FIXES:
- Fixes an issue where the system loses the SATA link which subsequently causes
an issue where the system cannot detect a SSD that is connected to the system.
- Fixes an issue that causes the SSD to become corrupted when the system is
powered off.

It seems to fix the problem we have. I am pretty confident we soon will get a new firmware for our Crucial m4! They just have to change the logo...

Edit:  Removed link to non-supported firmware download.

I'm having a major performance decrease with a 64GB M4. I use it as a cache drive for a WD Black 1TB with Intel SRT tech.

the data speaks for itself:

Firmware 000F, Crystal diskmark - 2nd run

---------------------------------

Sequential Read : 296.543 MB/s
Sequential Write : 100.438 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 283.728 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 55.152 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 24.196 MB/s [ 5907.2 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.911 MB/s [ 222.3 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 146.039 MB/s [ 35654.0 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.894 MB/s [ 218.2 IOPS]

Firmware 10G, Crystal diskmark - 2nd run

Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 1.034 MB/s [ 252.3 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 137.452 MB/s [ 33557.7 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.969 MB/s [ 236.5 IOPS]

can anyone explain this?

Both of those are very strange sequential read limits.  Does this Intel caching thing have a specialist sata port to use or is it a normal sata port and software?  If the latter, what make/model of sata port is the drive in?

Re: Crucial m4 firmware 010G is now available

I'm trying to use the ISO version of the firmware upgrader with no success. The CD I've made boots, successfully finds and identifies the SSD. then asks me to confirm that I want to go ahead.

BUT as soon as I press a key, it immediately responds with with "Invalid Opcode at 339B 0070 ..." and hangs; only way out is a reboot.

Any suggestions?

John

So is the new firmware, 020H, safe to flash the M4 right now?

Firmware 020H, posted on the HP site, has not been qualified or tested for Crucial SSDs and should not be used. Flashing a non-Crucial firmware to a Crucial SSD may cause the drive to be unusable, and it will void the product warranty.

Crucial_Katana, is there any info about when and whether new firmware for m4 will be available?

Re: Crucial m4 firmware 010G is now available

Targetbsp. You think so? The WD black is on the regular sata-600 port_01 and the M4 is on the sata-600 port_02. The board is a asus p8z68-v. Caching mode is set to enhanced.
