I experienced the "disappearing SSD" last night and after many attempts it has come back to life...yay...but
I have updated the firmware of my M4 256GB SSD. After a shutdown and reboot I followed the process to check the update but get the below:
So I tried running the update again but get this:

Have you checked the firmware anywhere else? CrystalDiskInfo will tell you.
If it is still the old version and the Windows updater is wrong, try using the manual boot cd version of the firmware update.
