PSID Revert tool alpha release

[ Edited ]

If you want to do a PSID revert on a Crucial drive please use the official Crucial tool, this will allow you to get support form Crucial.

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-storage-executive

Msed has been updated to allow you to use the hardware encryption built into your drive on a bios machine, if you want to USE the hardware encryption you may still be interested in msed.

I released an alpha version of msed (manage self encrypting drives) today.

So far the utility has only been tested by myself and one other person, I have tested on WIN 7 HP 64bit and UBUNTU 13. 64bit desktop.  I forgot to ask Matthew which version of Windows he ran it on.

You need to be root/administrator to run this utility (linux users see Readme_LINUX.txt for kernel flag requirement)

One of msed's functions is PSID Revert. To perform a PSID Revert using msed:

1. msed --scan               <- SCAN to find Opal Drive (you should see Yes next the the drive
                                   your working with.
2. msed --query \\.\PhysicalDrive?            <--this will show the Opal status look at the locking
feature and see if it is Locked = Y
                                                                  or LockingEnabled = Y that's a good
                                                                  sign that this should work
3.msed --yesIreallywanttoERASEALLmydatausingthePSID  <PSIDALLCAPSNODASHES> \\.\PhysicalDrive?

Linux device names would be /dev/sd?

If you use this utility or have an empty Opal drive that you can run TestSuite.(cmd|sh) on please do so and send me the output. I would be very interested in results on 32 bit OS's and versions of windows other that Win 7.

Source code is available on GitHub at https://github.com/r0m30/msed
Linux and Windows executables are available at http://www.r0m30.com/msed/files

Thanks

Getting a 404 on the 2nd URL.

Re: PSID Revert tool alpha release

That's strange, I'm not. try http://www.r0m30.com/msed/files

If that works I'll update it, but both work for me.

Yup. Adding www. works. The 2nd URL should have been http://www.r0m30.com/msed/files

That is strange.  I updated the post but I know my DNS is set up to send r0m30.com to www.r0m30.com and it works here in both lunux and win7.

It seems that this DNS setup does not work properly Smiley Wink Take a look at the bottom of this page - http://www.dnssy.com/report.php?q=r0m30.com

Re: PSID Revert tool alpha release

The last line of the test is REALLY interesting.

"Your domain does not have a WWW record. This means that people will not be able to find your web site at http://www.r0m30.com. Skipping further WWW tests."

Yet, the link that's broken is http://r0m30.com and the one that works is http://www.r0m30.com
