I just ordered two custom built laptops from Toshiba. They
ship on Friday. So I was about to place my order for this new drive. I decided
to check out the forums and see how they're doing.
Wow.... just wow... These new drives seem to be causing a
lot of people a lot of grief with this booting thing. I have always been a very
happy ***Edit to remove Crucial competitor*** customer, and in fact I still plan on putting their 240 GB ssd in
the wife’s new laptop. But I was gonna give this new larger 512GB drive a trial
spin in mine. (OK, the spin comment was a lame attempt at a joke)
So, my question is this. Would you still buy this new M4
512GB drive knowing about this issue, hoping the good people at
"Crucial" get this problem sorted out in a timely manner?
My new Portege R830-ST8300 is only gonna have room for this
one drive. I plan to travel abroad for a month with this and wanted the added
capacity for my pictures. I don't want to lug around an external drive if I don't
have to. Traveling light for a month is going to be creative enough on its own.
So, would you do it? Should I do it?

I certainly have not had a problem with my M4 or my C300's. However I have done most of the recommended tweaks prior to installing the M4 when my C300 was the main set of drives in my system.
I think you are on the right track for a great value proposition in speed and cost with the M4.

I don't think there are any that are especially relevant anymore.
Pretty much all I do is turn off hibernate to save on disk space. But I have a desktop. I spose hibernate might be useful on a laptop.

no tweaks needed imho,

I did it. I just got the tracking info from the egg. Got the tracking info from Toshiba Direct too. I have the feeling next week is gonna feel a bit like x-mas.
I have two laptops coming that I need to put new drives in. One new ram in too. I also got a few goodies for my desktop box. Woo hoo. I'll be in full geek mode by next week.. lol
So I have a question about this cable thats coming with this drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148450
Will I be able to use this cable with the smaller competitors brand ssd I bought for my wifes laptop?
Will this prevent me from having to make a new restore discs to reload everything with?
