I have notebook ASUS N76Vz and I've just freshly installed Windows 8.1 on m500 240 GB with MU03 firmware. When I click on enable Bitlocker, I get error "This device can't use Trusted Platform Module. Your administrator must set the "Allow bitlocker without a compatible TPM".
What to do?

The forum moderators are not necasarily technical support.
You might be able to enable TPM in your BIOS. But if your board doesn't support it, have a look at 'what could go wrong' here: http://blog.pluralsight.com/bitlocker-windows-8 for how to disable the need for it.

But if I enable that, will SSD still use built-in hardware encryption?
I don't have any TPM setting in BIOS, laptops BIOS settings are very basic in general.

Honestly I'm not sure but I don't see why it would affect that. It's not like you have much choice anyway if you're computer lacks TPM support!
TPM is explained here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-vista/bitlocker-drive-encryption-overview
It sounds like you'd have to have a USB flash drive conencted to compensate which is probably a little inconvenient on a laptop? More details here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6229/how-to-use-bitlocker-on-drives-without-tpm/
Disclaimer: I've never used drive encryption, I'm just going off what google says. Hopefully someone with actual experience will wander by at some point.
