27inch iMac RAM upgrade options

Hi, I'm currently in the process or ordering a new 2017 iMac 27" 3.4GHz quad-core i5 and was looking into upgrading the standard 8gb RAM to 16gb. Should i swap out the current two 4gb sticks for a new set of two 8gb sticks, or simply add another two 4gb sticks to get to 16gb total? Also, would it be possible to run the current two 4gb + a new pair of 8gb sticks for a total of 24gb?

Appreciate any feedback prior to ordering the iMac and ram upgrade.

Thanks

Re: 27inch iMac RAM upgrade options

@GauciBreMT Thanks for contacting us. There is no problem with mixing and matching RAM in this system. You could install a single 8GB stick, add two 4GB sticks, or add to the exisitng. I would recommend adding to the existing for the time being that way you can always add more RAM to this system in the future if necessary.  A list to all available upgrades can be found here. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks for your feedback. For some reason the local Mac store seemed to advise that mixing up different ram capscities will not leed to an optimal result. You are the ram specialists so i'll go by your word on this. Thanks.
