8GB RAM upgrade for Late '08 MacBook/MacBook Pro 5,1

[ Edited ]

I received the following response from Crucial customer service when inquiring about an 8GB upgrade kit for my Late '08 MacBook unibody 5,1. OWC offers an 8GB Ram upgrade for MacBook/MacBook Pro 5,1.

"Thank you for contacting Crucial with your memory needs. As this time both Apples's testing and Crucial's testing show that the MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) has a system memory maximum of 4GBs. It you wants to install more than the recommended memory I would recommend going with OWC."

Hi buzzworms,

Thanks for your reply and letting us know that the system does support 8GB.  I'm happy to hear that you got it installed and it's working fine in your system.

I will certainly feed it back that it did work and you are having no problems with the upgrade.

Enjoy the new better performance from your system!

Re: 8GB RAM upgrade for Late '08 MacBook/MacBook Pro 5,1

Which sticks did you buy? I can't find any 2 x 4gb DDR3 PC3-8500 sticks from Crucial that are 204-pin, they're all 240.

If I click through Shop by Memory Type there are absolutely no 204-pin DDR3 PC3-8500 sticks appear whatsoever, but obviously there are some for sale – if I use the Memory Advisor, I can find this 2GB stick which is compatible (but obviously not what I want to buy) http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=A5E50C2BA5CA7304

So I'm confused, how can I find a 4gb 204-pin DDR3 PC3-8500 stick?

Hi octochamp,

I have had a look in our records and unfortunately we don't supply 2x4GB at PC3-8500 at 204-pin.  What system do you have and I would be more than happy to check the memory for you?

If you can confirm the Mac type, processor speed and screen size I can check what memory is compatible with your system no problem at all.
