I've been researching the Crucial RAM upgrades for the HP Probook 4740S, and I'm a little confused. My system is currently running an 8GB RAM and I would like to increase it 16GB, However, HP document that 8GB is the maximum RAM available for this model laptop. Refer below
Mobile Intel HM76 chipset
3rd Generation Intel Quad-Core Core i7, Dual-Core Core i5, and I; 2nd Generation Intel Dual-Core and i3; Intel Celeron
AMD Radeon HD 7650M, 1GB or 2GB (discrete)
17.3-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD+1 anti-glare (1600 x 900)
DDR3 SDRAM, 1333-MHz, two slots supporting dual-channel memory, 1/2/4GB SODIMMs, up to 8GB total
Multi-media Reader Slot supporting SD, SDHC, SDXC, Memory Stick
Fixed 12.7-mm SATA optical drive
320/500/750GB 7200-rpm SMART SATA II HD
Realtek 10/100/1000 Ethernet Controller
But, Crucial promote and sell a 16GB RAM (P/N CT7786988) for this model computer.
My question is. Can Crucial undeniably confirm that increasing the RAM from 8GB to 16GB will not affect the integrity and reliability of my computer.
Look forward to the responses

Thanks for cotnacting us today. I pulled up your system specifications on our website and online and it appears that it can depend on the processor as to how much memory your system can support. Some of the lower end processors can only utilize 4GB or 8GB of RAM. What processor does your system have? I would be happy to check into this further for you to see if upgrading to 16GB will work for your particular 4740S.

Hi Yogi H
Thanks for the prompt response.
My processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3612QM CPU @ 2.10GHz
In addition, would you kinldy recommend the best SSD (1Tb) hard drive for my Probook 4740S. and I'm running a 64bit Operating System.
I look forward to your further comments.
As soon as I receive your response and recommendations I'll get them ordered.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for this processor information. Yes, it looks like your system will be able to support the 16GB of memory based on this information. We would recommend part CT3551622. Based on your processor it looks like your system would only run the memory at 1600 mhz anyway, so I don't advise purchasing anything faster. A link to this part can be found here:

I have HP ProBook 4740s (model H0V59ES with Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz)
Does this model support memory modules like CT3551622 or CT7786988?
I look forward to replies

@dima99 Thanks for your reply. Yes, your system can support either CT3551622 or CT7786988. CT7786988 is a higher speed memory and it looks like the processor would clock it down to 1600 mhz, so it wouldn't be advantageous to pay more for it. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you for your reply.
Yet another question: which difference between CT3551605 and CT102464BF160B modules? Or these ones are the same?

@dima99 These two are identical Please let me know if any other questions come up.

I also have a HP Probook 4740s and would like to upgrade ram from 8Gb to 16Gb.
My chip is the Intel Core i7 3632QM / Ivy Bridge.
I was wondering if anyone could confirm (as the Crucial Moderator did below) that my chip will support the 16Gb of RAM?

@craigp123 Thanks for your reply to this thread. Yes, your system can also use 16GB of RAM. The CPU will also down clock any RAM faster than 1600 mhz, so probably best to stick with that speed of RAM too. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
