Crucial USB drive not recognized

I have just bought a 4GB Crucial Gizmo USB drive.

WIndows XP wont recognise .  It just appears as a USB mass storage device and I am prompted for the driver which of course I dont have.

Any ideas gratefully received!!

Re: Crucial USB drive not recognized

If you move the Gizmo! to a different computer or operating system, does the problem follow it? If it does, the drive will most likely need to be replaced and our Customer Support department can take care of that for you.

You can contact them at one of the following links, or use the links on our RMA page to request an exchange. Be sure to use the proper link for your location, and reference this thread so they can see the troubleshooting you have done.

Re: Crucial USB drive not recognized

Hi there, I found this thread because I had the same problem and I just figured it out.

Try going to disk utility, under utilities in your application folder. The USB key should show up there even if it doesn't show up elsewhere. Click on it and open the erase tab. It's not self evident, but this is going to reformat it for you, and you can choose which kind of format you want. Mine had been formatted for MS-dos--which is bizarre considering that i bought it from a mac store!--and I changed it to mac-extended. Whatever that means, it worked.

Good luck!
