Could you recommend gaming notebook?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I was wondering could you recommend gaming notebook Smiley Happy My requirements:

- 17,3"

- Matt display with good luminance/contrast

- i5 or i7 processor

- good Nvidia graphics

- support for ATA password (HDD password) and/or eDrive BitLocker

- HDD would be exchanged with M550

MSI GE70 2OE would be almost ideal for me but unfortunately it seems it doesn't support ATA password and I am afraid also eDrive wouldn't work with it...

Price does matter!

Would lvoe to help, but laptops aren't really my thing.  Do you need it to game on the road?  If you just want portability in your own home, Steam now supports game streaming so your desktop can do all the hard work for a low powered laptop.

Re: Could you recommend gaming notebook?

Dpends on the kind of games you want to play really then.   If you want to play new, cutting-edge, 3d stuff, you're gonna have to spend a lot to get a laptop to handle that.  Probably twice what a desktop would cost to get the high performance whilst not using much power or generating much heat which can't easily be dissipated in a laptop.

If you're wanting to play older stuff or less action oriented games you could away with that easier on a laptop.

Re: Could you recommend gaming notebook?

I looked at this myself a few years back and the gaming laptop I wanted was about £1200.  My gaming desktop was only £600 and then netbooks came out and I went the complete opposite and decided I only need portability with my web brwoser.  Next I'll get a tablet and add touchscreen games to my portability.  All the while, keeping my desktop for proper gaming.

But this doesn't help if you don't have the space to setup a desktop!  I can't really help with recommending a laptop as the one I looked at would be years out of date by now.

Re: Could you recommend gaming notebook?

Okay, so my priorities/requirements are quite evolving at the moment and it seems Lenovo Y510P 2xGT755M SLI could be chosen. Do you have any thoughts of that kind of SLI setup? Smiley Happy

Re: Could you recommend gaming notebook?

You can get laptops with SLI? Smiley Surprised  That should be quick

I've never actually had a true SLI system.  Long ago I did have a card that had 2 rage 128 pro chips on it that rendered alternate frames.  That was as close as I got!

SLI should certainly be faster but as far as I can tell from patch/driver release notes - also a little more troublesome at game release times.  You might be waiting for driver updates to be able to take advanatge of SLI performance on certain new releases.  Though TBH, I'm kinda in the habit now of awaiting the first patch/driver update for any new game I buy even on a single card. It's just less hassle!
