upgrade video card

Hi,

I have an IBM NetVista computer with an Radeon 7000/Radeon VE video card.

Rather than replace the desk top computer could somebody recommend a better video card to purchase for this machine.

I simply wanted to play the $10.00 old games but the radeon 7000 wont do it.

The processor is a pentium4 and I understand the card would need to be PCI rather than PCI Express.

Any help would be appreciated-I have been on-line for hours trying to figure this out.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Can you do AGP rather than PCI?

Re: upgrade video card

Your talking GREEK to me.

Thanks for the input-not sure.

I was just told that a PCI-Express wouldnt work and had to locate a PCI card.

Thanks again,

Scott

You can't game on a PCI graphic card.  You'd be wanting a card than just about predates Windows 95!

You won't get a PCI card that you could game on.  I realise modern systems still have PCI slots for backwards compatiblity but that's not for graphics.  It for basic things like network and sound cards.

PCI isn't just the previous tech for graphic cards, it's two generations old.  PCI was replaced by AGP for graphics in 1996 - almost 20 years ago!

PCI then continued for non graphic uses until PCI Express replaced both it and AGP in 2004.

You would find it diffcult to find an AGP card these days but I don't think you stand a chance in finding a PCI card.  You'll need a new motherboard with PCI Express I'm afraid. Smiley Sad
