hard drive speed vs price

can you please tell me why crucial's 7200 rpm HDD is less $ than a 5400 rpm? I always thought the 7200 was faster than a 5400 therefor costing more??

Hi solitaryman474,

You are correct in saying that 7200 rpm is the faster of the two different Hard Drives but our pricing is based on the market and spot pricing.  This means the pricing can change and can either go up or down due to the spot pricing for that product.

It may have been at the time the 7200 rpm had a lower market price which means we can sell it on at the lower price to our customers.  These prices can however change based on the market.
