Extremely high Program_Fail_Cnt_Total and Cumulativ_Corrected_ECC on Crucial_CT240M500SSD1

I did a smart check with the very latest smartmontools from SVN. I did this because I have corrupt files on that SSD so I was checking whether it is a filesystem or ssd problem.

Here are the relevant details (for full details see https://pastebin.com/hvzVEhc0):
Device Model: Crucial_CT240M500SSD1

Firmware Version: MU02

While some values look pretty ok for the rather long time the drive is running (Reallocated_Event_Count etc), I am particularly worried about Program_Fail_Cnt_Total and Cumulativ_Corrected_ECC which seem really high. Is this a known report error or is the drive failing?

Also: Storage Executive says my drive is in a good state while claiming in most dialogues that my drive is unsupported/unknown. Which seems to result in smart values in the application to have no names attached to them. Only the IDs seen above. The webpage states that all M500 drives are supported. Is this a known issue?

I would pull any data off the SSD in case it is the cause of the data loss if you don't have it backed up.

You should then update the firmware to MU05 in case the issue was resolved in one of these updates.    If you still have issues after updating the firmware and the value of those attributes keep increasing, then I would perform a Secure Erase on the SSD as that may reset the SSD and get it unstuck.   The Secure Erase will wipe out all data on the SSD.

As a last ditch effort you may want to try the SSD in another computer just to make sure it is not a power or cable issue affecting the drive.   Since this is an older drive I don't know if Crucial tech support would be of any help or not.    If none of this helps it would appear the drive is failing.

If you resolve the issue please update this post so it may help others.

Your smart program doesn't support your drive.

181 is not program fail count - it's unaligned access count (which is always a large number)

Cumulative corrected ECC is the correct column - but that's data it corrected.  187 would be the troublesome attribute for this.

It's worth noting that your attributes 1 and 196 ARE concerning though if coupled with damaged data...
