Blue screen on cold start

I just cloned and installed a 120 gig M500 in a Dell insoration e15005. on a cold start I get a blue screen "kernel_data_inpage" error. Sometimes it reboots automaticly others I have to reboot. Either way everything loads and the computer runs fine. Have roun windows memory check and all OK.

Whats my next step?

Hi mpete53,

 

I am sorry that you are having issues with Windows on  your M500. With the "kernel_data_inpage error it is either the RAM or the HDD/SSD.  Running CheckDisk may fix the issue. Open a Windows Search (Windows Key + F), and type in chkdsk. Execute it — you can’t run a disk check while actively using Windows, but you can schedule it to start automatically the next time your computer is turned on.  I would recommend doing this first.  If this does not fix the issue I would recommend running a memtest to rule out the RAM. There are a few free memtests out there which can be found here:

- http://www.memtest.org/

- http://www.simmtester.com/

 

If CheckDisk does not fix the issue and it's not the RAM you would need to wipe the drive and do a fresh install of Windows. Please let me know if you have any other questions about this process.

problem found

after recloaning wiping the drive and a fresh install of windows 8 memor and disk check still had problem.

I found the Winows 8 quick start is my problem

after turning quick start off computer boots fine every time.

the solution makes sence, first boot quick start fails, second start normal boot worked.

have no idea why quick start does nut work with ssd, it worked fine with old drive.
