Links to download firmware 1916 can be found in this post.
Please keep all feedback regarding the new firmware in this thread, be it comments, concerns, questions or other. In the event that any issues come up, it will be a lot easier for us to monitor and track them if we have all feedback in one place.
Thanks! ![]()

I'm confused about why there are TWO firmwares for v1916. Which do I choose?
I'd guess at the one with Garbage Collection is better but why is there one without? Is that meant for non-Windows 7 users?

I'm still on 1819. Can I do a straight upgrade, or do I need to downgrade to 1571 first?

Garbage collection is mainly for RAID-0 users. If you're running on Win 7 without RAID-0, then you probably want without garbage collection.

Another question... with the v1819 firmware update, there was a different link depending on whether you had the 64, 128 or 256 MB model. Is there just one v1916 firmware for ALL drive sizes this time round?

Release notes? List of fixes? Can it be updated onto a live operating system or does disk need formating?
Thanks for the release, but more information on the firmware is vital.

@bogie - Yeah, I agree.
I'm going to leave this update for now until I have more information. I really don't understand this with/without Garbage Collection thing at all so I don't know which version I should be installing. I'm not using RAID0, my SSD is running in IDE mode like my other HDDs.
Thanks for releasing the firmware update but as stated above some release notes and more information on what risks this update carries such as data loss, etc., are needed.

So who's going to be brave enough to install this new firmware first then?
Me, I'm going to wait for some feedback from others before I do the 'dirty deed'!!!

Well, I've just taken a bootable backup of my Mac - so thought why not? I have the previous CD's used to go to 1819 and a 1571 one handy too.
Installed the GC version, as Snow Leopard doesn't do TRIM - cannot do any harm as far as I can see...
Dowloaded the .iso, burnt it to CD and booted it. A looong wait for a prompt and it updated the drive. This is a MacBook Pro 5,1 up to date will 10.6.2 and all patches.
Well, it seemed to boot much quicker than of late.
On the 27th September 09 I had the following from XBench.
Disk Test 234.34
Sequential 188.95
Uncached Write 206.14 126.57 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 179.48 101.55 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 120.05 35.13 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 413.76 207.95 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Uncached Write 120.62 12.77 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 326.87 104.64 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 2345.39 16.62 MB/sec [4K blocks]
