Manual boot hangs during "Finding drives..." on Mac

[ Edited ]

I have a MacBook Pro 8,3 with an m4 512 (M4-CT512M4SSD2). I've created a boot disc using the manual boot ISO with which I'm trying to update the firmware from 040H to 070H. While the computer does boot, the updater gets to the "Finding drives..." process, but never finds any drives. The cursor underneath that text continues to flash, but never proceeds past that point.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

This seems to be a known issue with MacBook Pros of this vintage. Most people seem to think it has to do with the Pro's UEFI standard. So far Crucial has been mum about the issue and seems uninterested in fixing it.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I am in the same boat - been stuck on firmware 010G for about 6 months.

this doesn´t sound good. Have the saem problem with an iMac. This is absoluty not cool. Overall i have I/O failure with this drive and was hoping to solve this by updating the fimrware.
