Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

So no one has tried flashing alternate firmware yet then I take it?

Just wondering, as I have thought about it myself for testing purposes since they all come from indilinux

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

It would obviously invalidate your warranty and I believe (from certain people being unable to flash on OCZ's forum) that they check the name string of the drive before flashing.  So you'd have to edit the file in a hex editor before doing so.  It would take a brave man to flash a bios he's edited himself onto a product this expensive!

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

Ya you are correct on on that, just surprised no one has guinie pig'd up yet.   I think it would be fine and work actually, but like you said these are Expen$ive so no one including me has tried yet.

It's too bad Crucial did not offer us the option like the other brand did, with the GC/Trim firmware choices.    RAID Users should be able to choose for sure.   And you know indilinux sent them both firmware versions.

Please let us have the other firmware Crucial, if you don't want it posted to the main firmware page please at least make it available in the forums to us users who know what it is meant for and know the consequences of wear leveling.

Trim and GC both would wear on the disks, so not sure why they choose one instead of making both available.

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

Hi i recently tried the Wiper tool on my 64gb M22564 with firmware 1819, i did the run as admin, but go a message that the drive cannot be done, could this be because i have Raid 0 enabled in my bios?

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

so even if my disk isn't apart of the raid setup but the computer is in raid mode i still can't use it, so would i be able to use the wiper tool if i disable raid then run it on the disk ?

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

Yes if you are using a single drive as NON Member in RAID mode you can disable RAID and run wiper on the disk no problems.   Please do though, unplug your RAID Drives when doing so becuase you will corrupt your array if you set IDE and try to boot to it.

So if you do not have a seperate disk you can boot to that is not RAID or another hard drive to do so with you will need to put your SSD into a different machine to run wiper on it.

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

Wiper works for me on a non memeber raid drive - it's just incredibly slow.  I'm talking leave it over night because it takes literally several hours slow but it is possible.

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

[ Edited ]

For some reason, I cannot get wiper to run at all on my Giga UD5. I run RAID 0, but if I disable RAID and set the drives as IDE and then run wiper from an XP BartPE disk (as admin, of course), wiper still will not run on the drives...a real pain.

Desperately waiting for a GC Firmware here :smileysad:

Re: Status of Garbage Collection Firmware

Crucial,

Any update on the RAID-0 compatible wiper and/or garbage collection?

Thanks.
