Choosing Single or dual ranked memory

Hey there

I've been looking at getting some new RAM for my Sony VAIO SVE15117FGB. I'm going to get 2x4Gb RAM but am not sure whether to get single ranked or dual ranged. I've done some reading and found out that single ranged is faster but I was wondering if there was any other advantages/disadvantages of the two.

Thanks

Hi bockadilla,

There is no difference in performance from having high or low density memory.  When you are talking about single and dual ranked this usually relates to high and low density.  With low density having 16 chips in total and high density having 8 memory chips.

If you are looking for the fastest 8GB kit available for this system I would recommend the 8GB Ballistix Sport kit.  You can find the compatible kit HERE.  This is the fastest memory we recommend for this system and it's guaranteed to be compatible with your laptop.

Thanks for the response. I was just wondering, would my laptop be able to use the extra speed/other benefits of having the Ballistix RAM?

Hi bockadilla,

It does appear that your system will be able to utilize the extra speed and benefits of having Ballistix RAM. Please let us know if there's anything else we may help you with.
