I have purchased Crucial memory which matches exactly to the spec of my HP Pro 3010, except the part numbers. The crucial memory advisor suggests this http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/ListParts.aspx?mod
I have bought CT25664BA1339.8FMD, which has the same spec as the items above. When I put this into the computer, either in single or double (banks 1 & 3), I get a short beep followed by a long beep which, according to HP, is a 'Memory Problem'. If I put the origial sticks back in it boots up OK.
The BIOS is the latest version. I have other crucial sticks of the same spec and all cause this machine to beep.
I appreciate the part no./codes are different, but all other specs seem identical. Any ideas what this doens't work?
Thanks in advance.

I am sorry for the issues you have experienced with your memory. I pulled up the memory you purchased and the upgrade that was recommended and it does appear that they are different. The difference between the memory is the density. Your system requires memory that is low density and the memory you purchased is unfortunately high density. Low density memory will have 16 single little black chips on the board (8 on each side). I would recommend returning these memory modules and ordering CT1493674 or CT2KIT25664BA1339A (this is the generic part number for the part). I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Upon checking the memory we have it also has 8 black blocks on one side only (nothing on back).
Also, just above the gold pins there are 12 tiny black blocks each side of the notch, with another 8 identical tiny blocks going up the right side of the stick.
Even comparing the printed circuit board shows the are virtuall identical.

Thank you for updating us with more information. I double checked the recommended RAM and it appears that there is a little more to it than just the difference in density. The modules are also made specifically for the Intel 4 Series. This is probably the defining feature and why even with the density being the same you are experiencing issues.
