Hi all,
I have just upgraded the Ram on my "Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop" with "Vista Home Premium" from 1GB to 2Gb (thanks Crucial).
On the Crucial website it said the max I could upgrade to supported by my system was 2GB. However using the "Dell Support Center - About Your system" the Maximum supported by the system is listed as 4GB.
How do I manage to get 4GB of ram? Only when I upgraded my ram today their was only two slots (which currently hold 2 x 1GB of ram.
Furthermore in the "support center" when looking at the Ram is says that Ram chip 3 and 4 are not installed. Are they hiding in another area of my laptop and if located will I be able to insert more Ram Chips in them?
Many thanks for your help and advise in advance.

HELLO, I JUST CHECKED THE DELL WEB SITE and I think you accidental typed in the wrong computer. Dell makes both
an Inspiron laptop and a desktop. If you check the desktop models you will find that while there are a number of Inspiron models, all of them will take at least 4 gig of ram. Your laptop, when checked for a dell memory upgrade, is stated to take a Max of 2 gig of ram. So you have the most your computer will use. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, every one who has looked up specs on the internet has screwed up a search on more than one occasion. That is why you have to double check this stuff, and besides dells web site is a mess to begin with. The clue should have been when the dell site said your computer had 4 memory slots. The would be very unusual.
