I'm looking to upgrade memory from the 8GB that came installed. I have not verified yet, but assume that it a pair of $GB DIMMs. HP shows the memory spec as DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 MB/sec, 240 pin non ECC unbuffered memory. The motherboard is an MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine).
He is my question: Crucial shows only Part # CT3522898 as being compatible, although I can find quite a bit of memory with what appears to be the same spec cheaper. Some of it is even memory marketed by Crucial, notably the Ballistix line of memory (The specific part I was looking at on Amazon was Part # BLS2CP8G3D1609DS1S00). When I asked, I didn't get a very good answer about why the other memory wouldn't work.
Is this truly the only memory that will work, or can I indeed use other memory than what is listed?

Thank you for contacting us today. I pulled up your system and it does appear that the CT3522898 is the only 8GB memory kit we list as compatible with your system. We do extensive testing before we guarantee compatibility. We would not recommend our Ballistix RAM as it doesn't appear that your motherboard would support it correctly. We are sorry for the inconvenience that this may cause. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
