Pavilion laptop will not boot system after upgrading RAM

[ Edited ]

Hi, I recently purchased 2 x 4GB DDR3 PC3-10600 *removed personal information* for my HP Pavilion dv4 laptop but after installing the system did not boot. The BIOS seemed to be detecting the 8GB fine but after trying to boot into windows it would just restart and try to go into repair system but nothing would happen and would just shut off on its own. After I installed the old 4GB RAM that it originally had the system worked again, but it seems like it will not work with the new RAM, even though the specs should match up. I tried reinstalling the RAM and upgrading the BIOS a couple more times but still nothing.

Any idea what might be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi tenten,

I am sorry that you are having issues with your new RAM. It appears that there are a number of Dv4 models. What specific model of the Dv4 do you have? If you need help finding this please run our system scanner and then post the link to your results. This will help us determine what RAM is compatible with your system. Also, what is the full part number on the memory module. This should read something like CT51264BF1339J. C8F, etc. Thank you in advance for this information.

It's a Pavilion dv4-2165dx

http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=7BE82E9D31D926C3

The full part number is CT51264BF1339J.M8FED

When I originally bought the memory it said CT51264BF1339 on amazon and I used the specs to match since I couldn't find the recommended memory. Thank you for responding, this is the first time I've tried upgrading my RAM and I was told so long as the specs were the same it should work, so I'm quite confused as to why one won't work.

Thanks for providing the full part number and the system information. I pulled up your system and it does appear that there is a compatibility issue. Your system is not compatible with high density parts which CT51264BF1339J is, unfortunately. Your system requires CT51264BF1339 a low density version of this part. It sounds like the vendor that you purchased from on Amazon may have sent the wrong part. CT51264BF1339 is a different part number completely and is listed separately on our lists. Please let me know if you need any more assistance or if you have any other questions or concerns.
