System Scanner crashes Vista Ultimate

Trying to run the Crucial system scanner on my HP laptop with Vista Ultimate. Have already run the scanner successfully with several Win XP machines. After downloading, I select 'run' and get a DOS screen telling me that "Windows has shut down to avoid damage" with the following string afterwards: WINDOWS_IRQL_NOT_LESS_BUT_EQUAL

What gives?

Re: System Scanner crashes Vista Ultimate

I had the same problem, only worse. When I ran the scanner on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine, I got a BSOD with the information that the kernel had been corrupted. It effectively destroyed the OS. I had to do repairs. It took me nearly an hour to recover my system. This is a serious problem and users should be warned by Crucial about this! Let the user beware!

Are either of you using the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer 8, and are both of you using a 64-bit version of Vista SP1?

I just had a similar problem of my other computer (64-bit Vista SP1 Home Premium), but trying to bring up http://www.crucial.com/ under the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer 8 (or was it trying to run the System Scanner program after downloading it under IE8?  I don't remember) crashed the whole operating system.  No sign of any corruption of the disk files, though.

Re: System Scanner crashes Vista Ultimate

I apologize for the problems you have had with the scanner. I have passed all of your feedback on to the webteam and they are addressing this issue now.

We have requested a 64-bit version of the scanner and it is being worked on, but at this time we unfortunately don't have an ETA for the finished product. As soon as we have an update we will post it here on the forum.

I have the same problem with the scanner crashing my system except I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, service pack 2, 64 bit version. When I run the scanner I get a blue screen and then windows restarts. It doesnt seem to be doing anything harmfull other than the restart. Here is the error info, hope it helps.

Re: System Scanner crashes Vista Ultimate

This inteneded as an addtion those experiecing issues with the system scanner and the Win7 RC( 64 bit). I did read the announcement posed by the moderator explaining that the issue has been addressed, however, I too experienced BSOD's on two machines today, 6.13.09, which are otherwise completely stable. This is disappointing as I have relied upon and recommended Crucial for years. Thanks.

Re: System Scanner crashes Vista Ultimate

yaktetysmakety and meditator1,

Thank you for mentioning this. We have been testing the scanner again, but we are unable to duplicate the crashes you're seeing on the 64-bit machines in our lab. Any additional information you can give us would be helpful. Which browsers are you using, and does the problem happen both in Vista and Windows 7?

Also, just to make sure we have covered everything, please double-check that you deleted the old scanner file from your system and downloaded the most recent one.

Thank you again for any additional info you can give us. I will pass everything you post on to the scanner team.

Thanks,

Re: System Scanner blue screen of death with Vista Enterprise Edition 64bit and Vista Home Premium 6

Forgot to mention (in response to the Moderator's questions)

1. I do not think it is an old version of scanner, bought the home pc yesterday and installed scanner

06/23/2009  09:31 AM           223,368 CrucialScan.exe

2. The browser version may not be the culprit: for example both using ie8 for the launch, or taking the browser out of the picture completely and just launching CrucialScan.exe from the \users\chris\Downloads directory bsods both pcs (home vista64 home premium or work vista64 enterprise).

Any way I can be of help debugging this?

Thanks,

Chris
