Re: Crucial vs Ballistix

RAM isn't really my specialist subject (I'll ask the mdos to move this to a RAM forum! Smiley Happy ) but to an extent it depends on how fast the RAM is in your current system since you're not going to have mainy RAM timing options in a Dell laptop and I believe you'll only be able to run at the slowest speed of the install chips so there's no point in adding high performance RAM to existing slow RAM.

With that in mind, I think it highly unlikley the Ballistix stuff will be worth buying for you.

This: https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html will tell you the timings of your current RAM and get stuff that macthes would be my advice.  But the RAM experts will be more qualified to help once the post is moved there. Smiley Happy

@jakabrogers

Thank you for contacting Crucial and for your question.  I apologize for the delay in response to your post.  Your system will not benefit from paying the extra amount to go with option 2 or option 3 that you provided.  The processor in your laptop will downclock the faster memory to run at the same speed as option 1.  My best recommendation would be to purchase your option 1 which is part number CT4880703.  Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns so that we can assist you further.
