Active Garbage Collection on encrypted data drive

Hi, I am getting a MX500 for data storage, and will Truecrypt the drive and mount it only when necessary.  TRIM seems does not work with TC encrypted drive.  In this case, will AGC work when the drive is not mounted? (No drive letter, showed as RAW under Disk Management) because that is the time without disk activity.

Or AGC will only work after mounted? Please advise, Thanks.

The SSD's garbage collection actually works better when the drive is not being used.

Will the Garbage Collection work when the drive is shown as RAW without drive letter and file system?

Yes, because it is internal to the drive.   As long as the drive has power it will perform its internal garbage collection.  Since the drive is not mounted, it will be able to perform its internal garbage collection without interference.

Here is a Crucial post explaining Active Garbage Collection.   Paragraph #6 is basically your situation.
