Crucial MX500 500GB - Slow Seq Speeds?

Hi,

Just installed a Crucial MX500 500GB, set it to AHCI etc so getting good speeds apart from Seq - I'm guessing these should be 500+ according to the details for this SSD?

Any ideas on what I could try?

Thanks,

Chris

First thing is that you shoud disable any RAM caching service (like Crucial Momentum Cache) in order to benchmark real SSD speeds.

Your sequential speeds look like the drive is connected to slower SATA2 port. What is your motherboard model and what port number the drive is connected to?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us today. We would like to know what system you are using with the SSD? Once we have this we might be able determine what might be going on.

That's the speed you'll get on a sata 2 system.  You can only expect faster if your system supports sata 3.  Does it?

Form a google, the MK5 did but then the 6 went back to 2 for some reason.  I can;t find info on the 7.

Re: Crucial MX500 500GB - Slow Seq Speeds?

@bienpcl thanks for this. As @targetbsp explained, these speeds  you are seeing are consistent with a drive on a SATA 2 connection which will limit the performance the drive can achieve. The speeds we advertise for the SSD are based on a SATA 3 connection. I am also struggling to find details about the port type on the MK7, so if you still have any documentation on the computer please refer back to it and check what generation your SATA is.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Crucial MX500 500GB - Slow Seq Speeds?

The panasonic CF 19 MK7 is not SATA 2. Its SATA 3 thats why i am wondering why i am getting that speed. Also can you please advice regarding optimising the ssd?

Re: Crucial MX500 500GB - Slow Seq Speeds?

What chipset does it use?

Some Intel chipsets are geared for all out power effeciency at the expense of performance - usually those in netbooks.

There are some chipset tweaks to some Intel mobile chipsets you can make.  Though you will be sacrificing power efficiency and the turbo boost feature to do so.  I wouldn't personally recommend it.  Sequential performance isn't generally an important performance stat for typical users.  But it is a nice big number so it looks good on the box. Re: Crucial MX500 500GB - Slow Seq Speeds?

Here's an article on the tweaks: https://www.storagereview.com/how_to_improve_low_ssd_performance_in_intel_series_5_chipset_environme...

I knwo from personally experience that it also affects chipsets other than the 5 series stated in the article.
