Crucial MX500 500GB not showing up in "Mid-2012" MacBook Air

Hi, I read every post on this forum about this update and still not able to find acurate solution.

So I tried connecting it externally and installing the OS, which worked, but after placing it internally it wasn't detected. At boot instead of the Apple logo, I get a folder with a question mark.

I tried it multiple times and for once

My drive shows up in disk Utility, but I cannot format or partition it. I get perhaps halfway into the process, and then it comes to a full stop.

Now again,

its still not being detected.

Should I visit Apple store? I think its the last option I have!!

I believe you have a MacBook Pro since the Airs only had proprietary SSDs available.    If you have a  MBP 13" (mid 2012) then the Hard Drive cable should be replaced as it was a very common failure for that model.  Even if you don't have that model, replacing the cable is your best bet after resetting the SMC (you can use the keyboard option too) & PRAM (make sure you hear the startup chime at least three times before releasing the keys).  It is best to do these two resets back to back.
