Crucial SSD not recognised by Acronis True Image for Crucial

Acronis True Image for Crucial fails after reporting that it requires at least one Crucial SSD be installed.

However the Crucial SSD is clearly present in the Windows Device Manager:

Disk Drive: CT250MX5 00SSD1 USB Device

Suggestions?

If the SSD is connected externally, then perhaps the USB adapter/dock/enclosure is blocking the command Acronis uses to request the identity of the SSD.  If you do not have another brand adapter, then I would suggest creating a bootable Acronis USB drive (See section 6.1 on beginning on page 56 of the Acronis for Crucial User Guide for instructions).  Then install the new SSD internally and connect your original drive externally.   During system POST access your BIOS/UEFI boot menu and select the Acronis USB boot drive.   Or you can try using some other software to clone your drive.

This sounds a very likely explanation of the problem. I'll borrow another USB adapter and try that. Many thx for the advice.

Works fine with Startech USB to SATA adapter cable!
