MX500 in HP DV7-2260ED

I plan to replace the HDD (500GB) in my brothers DV7-2260ED (AMD) with a SSD MX500 (500GB). After cloning make the SSD primairy and the HDD the secondary. I had end 2014 an experience with my DV7-3160ED (Intel) that the HP HDD has a "hard connection" with the fabric installed Windows(7). Cloning with Acronis did not result in a situation that the SSD could perform as primairy. The solution was a fresh install with the security backups-CD's form 2010 and then all the "updates".

I have read the forum and saw users that had problems making the Crucial SSD work in de DV7-2200 (AMD) series. Do you have an advice with your knowlegde of all these experiences ?

Can I buy the (as compatible with the HP DV7-2260ED) MX500 and do this installation ?

With kind regards

Paul

Re: MX500 in HP DV7-2260ED

Hello PaulK32,

Thanks for your message. The HP Pavilion DV7  2260ED is not listed in our database so it means we have not tested it first hand with our products, however I checked the HP website and our 2.5inch SSDs should be compatible with it as it has a SATA connection. From a hardware point of view and physical installation, the MX500 SSD should be compatible with your computer.

You can view our list of MX500 SSDs here: http://eu.crucial.com/eur/en/ssd/series/MX500

I would not recommend the bundles at the bottom of this page because you will not need the convertor offered, this is not required for your laptop.

You can find a specific installation guide for your computer from HP here:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01859261

With regards to the cloning, we still offer Acronis as a software with most of our SSDs including the MX500. The software is designed to work with most computers but if you ever encounter any cloning problems, you can contact our support team as we offer free technical assistance, you will find ways to contact us in my signature below.

If you require step-by-step instructions for installing an SSD or more information on the benefits of SSDs, you can find those here:

SSD Install guide -  http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ssd-install
SSD Buying Guide  - http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/storage-ssd-buying-guide

Your Operating System and data can be cloned from your existing drive onto to your new SSD, which eliminates the need to reinstall all programs etc. To help with this, all of our SSDs now come with Acronis cloning software.

You would therefore only generally require an additional USB to SATA cable in order to complete your clone and we sell these separately at the link below. I have also included a link to our Acronis activation and cloning instructions:

SATA to USB cable -   http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/accessories/ctsatausbcable

Acronis Cloning FAQ -     http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Crucial-SSDs/Acronis-True-Image-for-Crucial-FAQ/ta-p/181236

All of our new SSD ranges are compatible with our dedicated Storage Executive software. This puts everything you would need to know about your SSD in one place, allowing you to easily update your SSD firmware, check health status and more. You can find details on this here:

http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/support-storage-executive

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
