New MX300 On Mac Mini 2012 i5 16GB RAM

I am an audio recording engineer and over the Christmas break I installed a Crucial MX300 SSD (525GB) in my 2012 Mac Mini i5 with 16GB of Ram. I copied my entire existing hard drive to a Firewire Lacie external drive and then booted from it. I have checked for disc errors. I have repaired and verified the drive used disk utility. My problem is programs are slow or not responsive at all. For instance in Pro Tools 11 superior drummer 3 or any virtual instrument takes forever to load. All i get is the spinning wheel. I have even reinstalled the software for these VI's and performed a clean uninstall of pro tools and reinstall. I don't know what else to do. Thanks for your help sincerely.
