New MX500 not visible via working USB connection

Trying to clone to a new MX500 SSD (PC in question has an existing 500gb Crucial SSD). I have a working SATA/USB connector that has been faithful to me with all other drives I've ever attached to it. I've tried on two different PC's, but this new drive never shows up. Indicator light is on, but Acronis can't proceed without a visible drive. It's as if nothing is attached.

Do I need to connect it directly to the MB instead? It should at least be visible via USB. Maybe I just got a dead drive right out of the box.

Some USB adapters aren't compatible with some drives.  You would need to try another cable or connect it internally.
