Self-updating Crucial Storage Executive from 3.50 to 3.55: what's going on?

I have Crucial Storage Executive 3.50 installed on my Windows 10 Pro x64 machine. When I launch CSE, it tells me that a newer version (3.55) is available and offers me to update itself. Once I agree, it downloads something for a while and then just fails with an error message. The error message says that it is actually trying to downgrade from 3.50 to 3.46 and that automatic downgrades are not supported.

What is going on here? Why does it tell me that it is going to upgarde to 3.55, but instead attempts to downgrade to 3.46? And fails on top of that?

You can update it the old fashioned way here: http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/support-storage-executive

I already updated it it ages ago that way so can't tell if there's an auto update problem atm!
