6GB to 12GB upgrade - ASUS P6T Deluxe with i7-920

My system is an (overclocked) ASUS P6T Deluxe with an Intel i7-920 processor. I have been running the following BIOS settings with 6GB (6x1GB) of Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 memory (2 TR3X3G1600C8D 3x1GB kits) with no problems. However, I want to upgrade to 12GB of Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR3-1600 (3x4GB BLT3KIT4G3D1608DT2TXOB Kit). I assume the only necessary BIOS changes will be reducing DRAM voltage to 1.50 and (possibly) changing the DRAM Timing Mode to 1N.

Can anyone confirm this assumption or let me know if I should make any other changes?

Re: 6GB to 12GB upgrade - ASUS P6T Deluxe with i7-920

Hello hron1701,

Thank you for your message.  I have had a look in to this model for you.  It can support 24GB in total over 6 memory slots and BLT3KIT4G3D1608DT2TXOB will be compatible.  BLT3KIT4G3D1608DT2TXOB is actually 1.5v memory so you don't actually have to change the voltage at all.  To get the best performance, we would recommend change the memory profile to XMP in your BIOS.

You can buy that kit against that system here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/p6t-deluxe/CT2587173

We do also have a great guides and installation section on our website.  You can see that here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-memory

If you do have any other questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: 6GB to 12GB upgrade - ASUS P6T Deluxe with i7-920

Thanks for the info. The new memory has arrived and I hope to install it this weekend. I will try the XMP setting as you suggester, but I have had problems with it in the past. Could you also provide the specific settings in case I have to set the BIOS manually?

By the way, a couple of the links in your message give a 404 error messsge.

Thanks again for the help. I look forwsrd to seeing the results from running 12GB of memory.

Re: 6GB to 12GB upgrade - ASUS P6T Deluxe with i7-920

I tried X.M.P.

The X.M.P profile made the following changes to my original O.C. setings:

-CPU Ratio Setting                           20 -> AUTO

-Intel Turbo Mode                           Enabled (On "Manual" Turbo Mode is not available)

-BCLK Frequency                              180 -> 133

-DRAM Frequency                           DDR3-1443MHz -> DDR3-1600MHz

-QPI/DRAM Core Voltage             1.20 -> 1.35

-DRAM Voltage                                 1.60 -> 1.66

How can I retian oy O.C. settings (CPU Ratio and BCLK) and get the memory to 1600MHz? When I tried, once again, only 1443MHz was available.
