Bought two very different looking memory, both genuine?

Hello,

I've read about the other genuine questions here and it appears that having one or two labels on the memory might be due to change between batches, but I ordered the same ram from two different shops and the circuit board looks also very different to me. It would be great of someone could check both modules.

@Ecce Thanks for contacting us. I pulled up your memory modules info and it looks like they both check out. They are from different batches as you can see by the difference in the extension after the part number CT8G4DFS8266 on both parts. Different batches can vary with the PCB boards they use. We are sorry for the confusion. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Re: Bought two very different looking memory, both genuine?

@Crucial_YogiH thank you for looking the batches up!

One more question: Is there anything speaking against using those both different pieces in dual channel mode on a board?

My colleagues had mixed opinions about that but could not provide deeper insight.

@Ecce Thanks for the reply. The parts won't run in channel since they do have to be from the same batch to run in dual channel. However, they will work together just fine. What is the make and model of your system? A lot of newer systems do not run in dual channel anyway.

Re: Bought two very different looking memory, both genuine?

Well that was new to me.

I am going to use it on the MSI Z370 Pro Carbon (link to msi), with an i5 8400 (if that matters). The board looks like it has dual channel.

This memory was recommended to me and I wasn't able to find any dual channel kits of CT8G4DFS8266. Looks like I go the single channel way ...

Btw how can I mention someone? Using @ and typing a name did not work.

Re: Bought two very different looking memory, both genuine?

@Ecce Based on the MSI specifications in the link it does appear your system can run in dual channel. If you were wanting to order a matched pair you would use part number CT2K8G4DFS8266 to order. However, the performance increase is minimal, so it will really depend on if you have the one module already or how much RAM you are wanting.
