Compaq EVO 610c Conflicting memory info

Have been considering adding to memory in the 610 laptop.  There are two 256 memory modules physically present (two slots available, two slots filled)   Belarc system analysis indicates 512 of ram present.   Crucial memory scan indicates there is only ONE 256 module present.  Why the difference??   Had planned to replace one of the 256 with a 512 or  perhaps replace both of the 256's with 512's.   Reluctant to proceed given the difference in information.

OK, I swapped the two modules around (plugged each into the other's socket).  Now both Belarc and Crucial recognize both modules as being present.  Go figure!
