2gb sticks cause my computer not to boot

wondering if Idont have correct sticks or they are just too much. Wont any ddr2 machine take a 2gb stick?

ps just tried to run the crucial memory scn and it "encuntered an error' ... contacted crucial through instant message and they said, after I explained a business machine that the memory was compatible.??? My machine is an HP dual core with 4 memory slots ddr2 memory and a 21080? processor
