Computer sees 2.75GB of 4GB installed

I just recieved my part number CT934322  2GB PC2-5300 upgrade for my model EL1200-06w  emachine.  Install went fine and it is working.  My old module was a 1GB PC2-6400.  Does this make any difference.  Just asking because after the upgrade to 4GB my system info tells me I have 2.75GB of memory and not the 4GB that I was trying to get.  Help!!

Re: Computer sees 2.75GB of 4GB installed

If you have a 32 bit operating system, your max memory available will be around 3.2 to 3.5 GBs on a basic system. If you have a video card that has a lot of memory on it, it will take away memory allocation from the whole and thus lowering your overall memory available. So, you could have that low of memory if you had a 768 MB video card, for example.
