The choices for my Dell 630i system seem to indicate that there isn't a dual channel combination that will bring me up to 8GB (the limit for my system). Is my system only able to run dual channel up to 4GB?
What's my best bet for an 8GB solution?
Dell 630i - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
3.0 GB current memory ( 2 X 1GB, 2 X 512MB) DDR2-SDRAM PC2-6400 (399 MHz) - [DDR2-800] 4-5-5-15 @ 1.8v
I am not seeing anything saying a limitation for dual channel on this machine. Here is the note I found from Dell regarding dual channel:
DDR2 memory modules should be installed in pairs of matched memory size and speed. If the DDR2 memory modules are not installed in matched pairs, the computer will continue to operate, but with a slight reduction in performance. See the label on the upper-right or upper-left corner of the module to determine the module's capacity.
That being said the system should run dual channel fine with 8GB of RAM. To get to 8GB, you would want 2 x 4GB kits. You can visit this link for the upgrades for your system.
