I ordered the following RAM for my MBP (early 2008 version), since my mac can upgrade and utilize 4gb.
Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model CT2KIT25664AC667 - OEM
Below are my Mac Specs (with one new 2gb stick and one stock 1gb stick)
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 3 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.27f2
Serial Number (system): W88451121XR
Hardware UUID: 8D21D991-7675-5013-BBA8-AEE7D61125A5
Here is my problem:
when i put both of the 2gb sticks in i get a black screen at start up.
when i put the stock RAM back in it works fine.
when i put one of the 2GB sticks and one of the 1 GB sticks in, it also works, and registers as 3GB.
it's probably worth mentioning that any combination of the sticks seems to work in, regardless of the dimm, except when both of the 2GB sticks are in at the same time.
i'm confident that i'm pushing the RAM in the whole way, since it registers when the right combination is in place. i've seen similar threads, but no confirmed solutions for this. any help would be appreciated. it'd be nice to get the full compatible 4gb of ram.
